Structural support granted by the European Union consistently mitigates social and economic differences between EU Member States or individual regions. Its basic values may be expressed in two words – “solidarity” and “cohesion”. Solidarity – because the support is aimed to render assistance to regions that are economically and socially poorer if compared with the EU average. Cohesion – because reduction of income and property differences between poorer and richer regions is beneficial for everyone.
